ROBERT HEARD, violin
LOUISE WILLIAMS, viola RICHARD JENKINSON, 'cello
Robert Heard and Richard Jenkinson worked together for several years in the front desks of the City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, when together with Louise Williams they were asked to become part of the Frith Piano Quartet by Benjamin Frith – a union that has gone from strength to strength.
After a while they realised that there were many programmes that would amalgamate both the string Trio repertoire and also the repertoire for various duos. Equally they have all performed extensively many of the solo pieces written for their instrument: the Bach Suites, Kodaly’s Sonata and the Britten suites for ‘cello; viola pieces by Britten and Frank Bridge; and obviously Bach’s wonderful works for solo violin.
Their various programmes include works from the classical period such as the Mozart Duo for violin and viola, the Beethoven String Trios of Op 9, Schubert’s Trio movement to mention but a few. In addition they have a great joy in playing the music of the early 20th Century by composers such as the trio by Lennox Berkeley, and Kodaly’s Sonata for violin and ‘cello.
With this wealth of knowledge and expertise behind them, the trio work effortlessly together and their exciting concerts have been received with great pleasure at such venues as the Harlaxton Festival, Seaford Music Club, in Wolverhampton and the CBSO Centre in Birmingham amongst others. They will during the coming season be performing at Kendal, Scunthorpe, Bury St Edmunds and for a musical weekend for Music at Leisure
